June 23, 2009 — Electric automaker Global Electric Motorcars helps Dominican Republic eco-resort Cap Cana boost its green operations by providing the 30,000 acre Caribbean luxury getaway with zero-emissions, environmentally friendly Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEVs). The timely partnership signals the widespread trend of hotels and resorts adopting an eco-friendly stance on daily operations.
As one of the largest luxury resort developments in the Caribbean, Cap Cana has been hailed as the “world’s next great destination” by Miami Monthly. In addition to its dedication to eco-tourism and the upkeep of conservation areas, the resort touts a Jack Nicklaus-designed Punta Espada golf course, the largest marina in the Caribbean, luxury housing and much more. All the GEM electric vehicles ordered to date will be used in the Green Village section of Cap Cana, which is an automobile-free subdivision of 480-fully-furnished and professionally designed bungalows, each with a pool and outdoor master bath.
“The GEM car is a perfect fit with Cap Cana’s environmentally-friendly master plan,” says Aldo H. Mariotti, President of Smart Carts, LLC, the local GEM distributor who facilitated the partnership with Cap Cana. “The combination of the GEM car’s high-quality performance and technology, its stylish design, and how cost-effective it is to operate sold us on the GEM cars,” added Mr. Mariotti.
Cap Cana purchased almost 150 GEM cars, including GEM e4 four-passenger models, GEM e6 six-passenger models, and utility models, and is on target to purchase additional GEM cars in late 2009. The new GEM cars will be used by the facility and by Cap Cana guests. The facility will use the GEM cars for transporting guests, and for maintenance, such as housekeeping, grounds maintenance, room service and security. Guests of Cap Cana may also rent a GEM car for their own use, such as local shopping, dining, entertainment and sightseeing.
