Careless and reckless driving, and lack of traffic laws enforcement has been a problem in DR forever. I think it is time for the government to come up with solutions to this problem if the Dominican Republic wants to continue to grow as a top vacation destination and provide peace of mind to all its visitors. There were 11 passengers and at least 4 were terribly injured, 1 was still in critical condition when we left. The result of the crash was CARELESS, RECKLESS, driving. EVERY road trip I had during my stay, including the trip to and from the airport, involved careless and reckless driving. I have found numerous articles about fatal car crashes in the Dominican Republic, and I wonder how many tourists as well as locals lose their lives each year as a result of the absolute disregard for road safety.
