NEW YORK .- Five players from the Dominican Summer Minor League were suspended 50 games after a positive test for consumption of substances that help improve performance.
The baseball players are: pitchers Alexis Juma and Alex Nolasco (Oakland Athletics) the pitcher Renedín Mesa (Los Angeles Angels), pitcher Juan Pascual and outfielder José Trinidad (Philadelphia Phillies) were penalized under the drug program minor leagues.

CHICAGO — The Giants signed 16-year-old outfielder Rafael Rodriguez, a highly regarded prospect from the Dominican Republic, to a $2.55 million bonus, the largest ever given in franchise history to an amateur player.
